Last night was the first ever Story & Strategy Live.
My guest, Chris Hallett, came looking for help building a business around his new book, Purpose Before Profit.
Thirty minutes later, we had uncovered opportunities, products, positioning ideas, and a path forward.
But the biggest surprise wasn’t the strategy.
It was the story.
We Didn’t Build the Business
We Revealed It
Most people think they have:
a business problem
a content problem
a marketing problem
When often they have a story problem.
And until that story changes, the strategy remains hidden.
What story might be limiting your business?
Examples:
“I don’t have enough ideas.”
“My niche is too small.”
“Nobody will pay for this.”
“I’m bothering people.”
“I’m not ready.”
Most people think they have a strategy problem.
Sometimes they do.
But often there’s something underneath the strategy.
A story.
A belief.
An assumption.
A conclusion they’ve reached about themselves, their business, or what’s possible.
That’s why every Story & Strategy Live follows the same simple process:
Story
Find the hidden belief and shift it.
Strategy
Build the path forward.
Transformation
Everything changes.
Story: Find the Hidden Belief
Chris came to the show looking for help building a business around his new book.
At first glance, it looked like a business challenge.
How do you turn one book into a business ecosystem?
What products should come next?
How do you create recurring revenue?
What should the offer ladder look like?
Those are strategy questions.
But before strategy comes story.
As we explored the challenge, it became clear that the biggest opportunities weren’t hidden in the market.
They were hidden in the way the situation was being viewed.
Once we uncovered a different way of seeing the opportunity, everything began to change.
That’s the power of story.
The story determines what you see.
And what you don’t.
Strategy: Build the Path Forward
Once the story shifted, the strategy became surprisingly clear.
What looked like:
“I have a book.”
Became:
“I have the foundation for an ecosystem.”
Suddenly we could see:
additional products
additional offers
recurring revenue opportunities
coaching opportunities
community opportunities
implementation opportunities
The business wasn’t created from scratch.
It was revealed.
The strategy was already there.
The old story was simply hiding it.
Transformation: Everything Changes
This is the part people often miss.
Transformation isn’t just learning something new.
Transformation is seeing something differently.
Because when you see differently, you act differently.
When you act differently, results change.
In about thirty minutes, Chris went from:
“I have a book.”
To:
“I can see an entire business and profit ecosystem.”
That’s transformation.
Not because we added more information.
Because we uncovered a new story and built a strategy around it.
The Real Lesson
Most people don’t need more information.
Most people need to uncover the story affecting the challenge they’re trying to solve.
That’s why Story & Strategy Live exists.
Story
Find the hidden belief.
Strategy
Build the path forward.
Transformation
Everything changes.
And when one person experiences that transformation, everybody else gets to watch, see themselves, and apply the lesson to their own lives.
What challenge would you like help solving?

We thought we were building a business.
Instead, we changed a story.
And once the story changed, the business changed too.
