Remember in the most recent Radical Content Creation Newsletter when I told you about how to repurpose Substack Chats into Newsletter Articles?
So today we’ll have a chat about how to repurpose your Substack Chats into profitable digital products.
So here is my original and first chat:
Q: How do you beat content creation procrastination?
Jeanette Gower: You find someone who is a kick-starter for you..................I found Jeff. Hah!
Me: better than a kick in the pants, huh?
Denise Wakeman: Checklists, so I don't have to think about what I should do. Just do it.
Me: "so I don't have to think about what I should do" <== best benefit of checklists I've ever seen :-)
Cindy Bidar: Like Denise's checklists, my content calendar tells me what I need to create and when. I don't have to waste time thinking about it.
Me: Content Calendars for the WIN!
Kathy Wu Brady: I start drafts all the time and then schedule times to write in my calendar. This way I always have ideas to build on and know that I have budgeted time to do the work. It’s not a perfect system but it gets me writing most days.
Me: Doesn't have to be perfect it just need to work - well done Kathy
These are 4 examples from the 24 responses received to the question.
So let’s expand Kathy’s response and my answer:
Kathy Wu Brady: I start drafts all the time and then schedule times to write in my calendar. This way I always have ideas to build on and know that I have budgeted time to do the work. It’s not a perfect system but it gets me writing most days.
Me: Doesn't have to be perfect it just needs to work - well done Kathy.
Having said that, there’s at least 2 important strategies at work here:
Creating drafts from your content ideas. Technology has made it very easy to capture our ideas. Don’t try to remember an idea you did not capture.
In this way you lots of idea drafts from which to choose when it’s time to create.
Schedule time to create content. I usually create these newsletters first thing in the morning. Except for this one. Watching Monday Night Football and went to shut down my laptop.
And the idea you see here showed up and I went with it. It’s 10:29 pm as I create this…
So schedule the time to create that works for you. And because you’ve captured your content ideas in the first strategy above, you’ll always have an idea to build on and create.
The next step would be to do the same for the 3-5-7 best responses.
Here’s what the original chat looks like on Substack:

Your Bonus Tips
1. Gamify the Content: Transform your chats into interactive quizzes or games. Create a game-like experience where your audience can unlock content, earn badges, or compete on leaderboards. Imagine turning your chat about procrastination into a game that challenges users to defeat “The Procrastination Monster” with specific strategies and rewards them with exclusive content or discounts for participation.
2. Create a “Procrastination Detox” Workshop: Use your chat as the backbone for a live workshop. Engage your audience in real-time discussions and hands-on activities that go beyond just sharing tips. Incorporate breakout groups, accountability partners, and guided exercises, culminating in the creation of personal action plans. Offer the recorded session as a bonus digital product afterward.
3. Turn Chats into an Animated Series: Why not animate your chats? Utilize tools like Doodly or Animaker to convert the discussions into fun, animated videos. This visually engaging approach can make the content more digestible and shareable, appealing to visual learners and broadening your audience reach.
4. Create Procrastination “Personal Trainers”: Develop a subscription service where you become a “Personal Trainer” for procrastination fighters. Your subscribers receive tailored weekly plans, accountability check-ins, and exclusive content based on previous chats—making each subscription session feel like a personalized journey towards productivity.
5. Launch a Procrastination Podcast: Take snippets from your conversations and build a podcast around the themes of each chat. Use a storytelling approach to weave personal anecdotes and guest stories into a captivating narrative. Don’t forget to include listener engagement segments where they share their own struggles and victories.
6. Build an Interactive Mobile App: Create a simple app that offers bite-sized audio clips from your Substack chats. Users can choose specific topics, set reminders to listen, or engage with interactive challenges. This not only offers a new way to consume content but also keeps your insights top of mind throughout the day.
7. Craft a “Procrastination Playbook” eBook: Combine insights from your chats into a comprehensive eBook filled with actionable exercises, infographics, and success stories. Instead of a traditional guide, format it as a workbook where readers can fill in their thoughts, making the process interactive. Promote it as the ultimate tool for anyone looking to conquer procrastination and build productive habits.
By adopting these unconventional strategies, you can elevate your Substack content from simple chats to exciting, profit-generating digital products that resonate with your audience on multiple levels!

My biggest problem is that my subscribers won't go onto Substack programme to actually do anything - engage, chat, even to comment in any way.
They receive every post in their email inbox, but don't join or log-in to Substack to do any of the above. They don't set up a profile on Substack.
They simply don't DO Substack.
I would be very interested in your ideas going forward to alleviate this problem.
